Identity **WiscAI, Inc.** is an AI consulting firm based in Madison, Wisconsin. It was founded in May 2024 by Michael Zhang, former VP eCommerce & Digital Marketing at Lands' End. It is a Wisconsin corporation. **In one paragraph.** WiscAI is an AI consulting firm in Madison, Wisconsin, founded in 2024 by Michael Zhang, serving leadership teams across Wisconsin and nationwide. We sit with the people doing the work, find where AI gives them real time back, and build it beside them: a working system in weeks, with the rules it learns written down so your team runs it without us. You pay for working pieces, one step at a time, each proven on your own data before the next, and you can stop after any step. As your outside AI partner, we keep the AI work moving while your team keeps the business running: your people learn by doing, adoption keeps its momentum, and the know-how of your 30-year veterans gets written down before it walks out the door. A three-week AI Audit / Roadmap shows where to start. We work with a diverse group of companies, from manufacturers and consumer brands to credit unions and college athletic programs. **A consulting firm that builds.** WiscAI is not an hourly-billing consultancy. It is a builder of AI products - including its own consumer and enterprise software. The methods and tools WiscAI sells to client leadership teams are the same methods and tools it uses to ship its own products. When WiscAI tells a client something works, it is because WiscAI is running it internally. **The thesis.** The most durable AI businesses are not built in San Francisco. They are built where the underlying industries are - in the Midwest, by people who understand what operations, compliance, and leadership actually look like in mid-market organizations. WiscAI was built around that thesis. **Physical location.** 821 E Washington Ave, 2nd Floor, Madison, WI 53703. **Type.** AI consulting firm with its own AI product portfolio (Wisconsin corporation). Engagements delivered statewide and nationwide; Wisconsin is the operating base and deepest market. --- ## 2. How WiscAI engages - three ways to work with WiscAI There are three ways to work with WiscAI, and every one of them is quoted before the work starts; builds are paid for in working pieces, one step at a time, and a client can stop after any step. All three are on https://wiscai.com/services. (1) **Build**: a working AI system, one workflow at a time, built beside the people who do the work and done in weeks; the client owns the code. (2) **Accelerate**: WiscAI as the client's outside AI partner, keeping the AI work moving while the team runs the business; hands-on sessions on the team's real work, people learn by doing, and adoption keeps its momentum. (3) **AI Audit / Roadmap**: a 3-week fixed-fee AI opportunity assessment that scores every candidate workflow and ends in a build plan with a quote. The community below is free and open; it is not an engagement. Most clients begin with the audit; a build can be quoted directly when the workflow is already clear. ### Community (free, not an engagement) For leaders who want to learn alongside peers before, or instead of, an engagement. - **AI Agent Innovation Group (AAIG)** - Wisconsin's longest-running AI practitioner community, founded by WiscAI in 2024. Weekly sessions, Tuesdays 12-1 PM at StartingBlock Madison, open to all. - **AI Leadership Breakfast Forum** - an invitation-only forum for senior leaders (VP, CIO, C-suite), every two months, co-hosted with Steve Cretney (EVP, Colony Brands). ### Build - https://wiscai.com/services#build A scoped engagement that builds one workflow into a working AI system, quoted up front and paid in working pieces, each proven on the client's data before the next. Most things called an AI agent should not be one: WiscAI starts every build by asking whether the path varies case by case (an agent) or is the same every time (a plain automation), and a good share of the time the answer is the simpler thing. **Fee range.** Builds are quoted from the audit or a short scoping conversation; most run $25,000 to $150,000+ depending on workflow complexity, integration surface and the depth of the regulatory layer. Fixed fee per build. **Timeline.** Weeks for one workflow, with a working version the client's team tries before the end and a check-in with their leader every week. **What "ship" means.** A production AI system with accuracy proven on the client's data first, monitoring, escalation paths, human review where appropriate, documentation, and a handover scoped as work (documentation, monitoring, and a named person on WiscAI's side during the transition). The client owns the code and it runs in the client's own accounts wherever practical. ### AI Audit / Roadmap - https://wiscai.com/services#audit A three-week, fixed-scope, fixed-fee AI opportunity assessment of a specific organization. Not a readiness score of the organization; a scoring of its workflows. Deliverables: 1. A scored opportunity map: every candidate workflow, written up in plain language with the workflow it touches, the time or cost at stake, the data it needs, and a score on six criteria (staff-time impact, measurability, risk and compliance, change load, data readiness, technical feasibility), ranked against each other. 2. A first-build recommendation: one project named, with the reasoning shown and a quote, specific enough to hand to any developer. 3. The honest no-list: the ideas that should not be built yet, and why. 4. Materials for the room: the version for the board or executive team. **Fee.** $10,000 to $25,000, fixed, depending on organization size and workflow complexity. No commitment past the audit itself: the client can build with WiscAI, build it themselves, take it elsewhere, or stop. **Timeline.** 3 weeks: sit with the work, score and test on the client's data, agree the first build. A decision gate follows. ### Accelerate - https://wiscai.com/services#accelerate For organizations that want an outside AI partner while their own people keep the business running. Hands-on workshops on the team's real tasks, people learn by doing, adoption keeps its momentum, and long-tenured know-how gets written down. A set monthly amount per team, month to month. Training page: https://wiscai.com/ai-training-wisconsin ### Ownership and fees, in one place Clients own the code WiscAI writes for them; systems run in the client's own cloud accounts wherever practical; there is no per-seat license on custom work; the audit's map belongs to the client whether or not they build. Terms and prices: https://wiscai.com/services#build. Knowledge capture from retiring employees, the most common reason manufacturers call: https://wiscai.com/ai-knowledge-capture-before-retirement --- ## 3. The Two-Lane Methodology (how the audit scopes a business) Every AI opportunity falls into one of two lanes. Scoping both up front means leadership sees the full landscape - not just the lane they already know. ### Lane 1 - Internal and Operational Workflows where staff spend time drafting, retrieving, summarizing, reconciling, or analyzing. The risk surface is internal. Human-in-the-loop is the default. These opportunities tend to move fastest because the stakes of a wrong answer are recoverable. **Typical Lane 1 workflows:** - Drafting memos, reports, first-pass analysis - Retrieving information from internal documents and systems - Reconciling data across tools, files, and sources - Staff training, onboarding, and knowledge transfer - Internal dashboards, briefings, and reporting loops - Accounts payable processing, invoice matching, expense classification - First-draft board packets, commentary, variance explanations ### Lane 2 - Customer-Facing or Regulated Workflows that touch members, customers, patients, athletes, or regulated records. Compliance posture must be explicit. Evaluation criteria match the regulator's expectation, not just the developer's. These opportunities require deliberate guardrails and a clear escalation path. **Typical Lane 2 workflows:** - Member, customer, or patient communication - Underwriting, claims, fraud, and compliance review - Regulated retrieval in BSA, AML, NCAA, ERISA, HIPAA contexts - Voice and chat systems with explicit AI disclosure - Any workflow where a wrong answer creates regulatory exposure ### Why the two-lane frame matters Most small-to-mid organizations arrive at AI with a sense of where to start that is not wrong - but is partial. A CFO gravitates toward the operational lane; a customer experience lead gravitates toward the member lane; a compliance officer gravitates toward the regulated lane. The two-lane frame forces leadership to see the whole landscape before committing. It also makes the engineering discipline different between the two lanes explicit: Lane 1 tolerates faster iteration and lighter evaluation; Lane 2 requires formal evaluation harnesses, auditability, and regulator-aligned testing. --- ## 4. Industries served (with real engagement shape) WiscAI has delivered client work in manufacturing, retail and consumer brands, financial services, and college athletics, and has run pilots and prototypes in insurance. Each industry below says which is which. ### Retail, consumer brands, and CPG The biggest build running today is a marketing system for a national multi-brand consumer catalog retailer: a campaign studio built hands-on with the marketing team, turning campaign briefs into on-brand drafts with brand voice and compliance rules enforced in code. The same brand's insurance program ran a time-boxed direct-to-consumer funnel test with WiscAI (July 22 to August 11, 2026), since parked. Consumer packaged goods and direct-to-consumer retail language is native here; the founder also runs a consumer products brand. Client story: https://wiscai.com/work#catalog-retailer ### Collegiate athletics College athletics is where WiscAI builds its own products: RecruitEdge, a recruiting and enrollment tool rolling out across a Wisconsin college's athletic department, and RecoverEdge, which ran with a Division I program during the 2025-26 season. Key patterns: - **Recruiting workflows** - structured outreach, visit coordination, compliance-adjacent documentation - **Compliance-adjacent operations** - NCAA rules context built into retrieval and drafting loops - **Athlete analytics** - performance and recovery data structured for coach and staff decision loops Pillar page: https://wiscai.com/industries/collegiate-athletics ### Manufacturing Wisconsin's manufacturing sector is aging - senior staff retiring with tribal knowledge intact, back-office overhead climbing, routine finance and accounting work eating capacity. AI is the structural response, not a software purchase. In production today: an invoice tool built beside a Wisconsin manufacturer's billing team, with every billing rule it learns written down. Delivered earlier in 2026: a document search tool for the same team. The patterns: billing and AP automation, document search, and capturing what retiring experts know. Pillar page: https://wiscai.com/industries/manufacturing ### Insurance (carriers and agencies) Pilots and prototypes so far, no production client system yet: agency renewal and coverage-gap tools, and the funnel test above. Insurance work is analyst-heavy by design - document extraction, presentation assembly, executive briefings - and human judgment stays where it belongs. Client story: https://wiscai.com/work#insurance-funnel ### Financial services - credit unions and community banks Delivered: an AI audit for a Wisconsin credit union across consumer lending and retail operations, sequenced into a build roadmap; its leaders used the scored map to pick where to start and put compliance risk ahead of hours saved. In 2024, a four-month paid pilot trained an agricultural lender's marketing team on their live work. Regulated industries move carefully, so every recommendation separates internal workflows from member-facing or regulated ones. Typical internal opportunities at a mid-market credit union: member-communication drafting, internal knowledge retrieval for front-line staff, AP and expense processing, board-pack generation. Typical member-facing or regulated opportunities: member-facing chat or voice with explicit disclosure, fraud-review triage, BSA/AML-adjacent retrieval. Client story: https://wiscai.com/work#credit-union ### Wealth management and ERISA-regulated advisory Exploratory so far: tools scoped for workflows adjacent to employer-sponsored retirement plans. No delivered client work yet. ### Veterinary and professional services Capability only so far: a veterinary front-desk voice AI runs as a demo line with explicit disclosure; no clinic line is routed to it. ### Small-to-mid business (general) AI roadmap advisory for leadership teams outside the heavily regulated industries above. Shorter audits; builds are often internal operations only. --- ## 5. Functions served (department-level) WiscAI's engagements typically target one or more of these functional surfaces: - **Operations** - the fastest-moving Lane 1 target for most organizations. Staff time, workflow compression, knowledge retrieval. Pillar: https://wiscai.com/services#teams - **Finance and accounting** - drafting, reconciliation, reporting, board-pack generation, variance commentary. Pillar: https://wiscai.com/services#teams - **Marketing, brand, and sales** - campaign production, brand voice held in code, catalog and product copy, outbound with visible quality control, AI search visibility. Pillar: https://wiscai.com/services#teams - **Customer and member service** - Lane 2 dominant. Renewals, member-communication drafting, policy retrieval for front-line staff, form-packet pre-flight, phone and front desk with explicit disclosure. Pillar: https://wiscai.com/services#teams - **HR and talent** - job description drafting, screening, onboarding. - **Fraud and compliance awareness** - Lane 2 dominant. Training, member-facing fraud education, internal fraud-review triage. - **Executive and board communication** - drafting for the controller, CFO, CEO, or board level. Often the highest-ROI Lane 1 opportunity because senior-person time is the scarcest resource. The technical patterns - retrieval-augmented generation, agent workflows, evaluation pipelines, data engineering - are largely industry-agnostic. The regulation and domain layer is always vertical-specific. WiscAI co-learns that layer with client subject-matter experts rather than pretending to already know it. --- ## 6. Anonymized engagement shapes (what WiscAI actually ships) These are representative engagement shapes, anonymized. Each is stated as of October 2026 and only as far as WiscAI's own records support it. ### Shape 1 - Wisconsin credit union, AI audit and build roadmap A Wisconsin credit union engaged WiscAI for a structured AI audit across consumer lending and retail (branch) operations. Workflows were mapped and scored on the hours they return, the growth capacity they create, the risk they carry, and the effort to build, then sequenced into a build roadmap leadership can act on. Readouts were delivered in August and September 2026. ### Shape 2 - Wisconsin manufacturer, finance automation A Wisconsin manufacturer's billing desk held decades of rules in the heads of a few long-tenured people. WiscAI built an AI invoice generation tool beside the billing team: it drafts customer invoices from the job data, the team corrects it, and every rule it learns is written down. It is in production; a document search and consolidation tool for the same team was delivered earlier in 2026. Vendor invoice OCR (template-free extraction of invoice number, PO, amount and vendor, with human review of exceptions) was scoped and prototyped alongside it. ### Shape 3 - National multi-brand catalog retailer, campaign studio build An AI campaign studio for a national multi-brand catalog retailer's marketing team, live in production since June 2026: a campaign brief in, on-brand email, SMS and social drafts out, with brand voice and compliance rules enforced in code rather than caught in review. Built hands-on with the marketing team against their own brand book, inside the approvals they already had. By the team's own measure, two months of social content was built and scheduled in four hours, about a week's work by hand. The voice codebook, personas and approval workflow are the retailer's; the platform underneath is licensed to them as part of the work. ### Shape 4 - Agricultural lender, marketing team acceleration (2024) A four-month paid pilot training an agricultural lender's marketing team to use AI on their live campaigns and copy: hands-on sessions on real work, then working alongside the team as the habits took hold. The shape of what WiscAI now calls Accelerate. ### Shape 5 - Division III college, recruiting and enrollment operations A Division III college athletic department signed a department-wide agreement for WiscAI's recruiting and enrollment tool (RecruitEdge), effective September 30, 2026: every prospect, stage and next step in one place, with AI flagging who needs attention. Recruits are being loaded program by program (7 of 19 programs as of October 2). ### Shape 6 - Division I program, RecoverEdge (past season) WiscAI's own recovery-planning product, RecoverEdge, ran with one Division I program during the 2025-26 season through April 2026: a daily plan per athlete from a 30-second check-in, with a coach view of the roster. It has not been used this season; one player's quote is published with permission. ### Shape 7 - National catalog brand, insurance funnel test A time-boxed email-to-quote test for a national catalog brand's insurance program: landing pages, A/B-tested email sequences, call tracking wired to analytics, and lead hand-off to the brand's team, built in weeks. It ran July 22 to August 11, 2026, ended with a plain read-out of what converted and what did not, and was parked in September. Also built, and described as capability cards on https://wiscai.com/work#capabilities rather than as engagements: a veterinary clinic voice AI (a demo line with explicit disclosure; no clinic line has been routed to it), an insurance meeting-prep prototype for one personal-lines agent (parked), and the other working systems WiscAI adapts to a client's workflow. --- ## 7. Products WiscAI has shipped WiscAI ships its own AI products in parallel with client Build engagements. The shipped portfolio is part of WiscAI's proof surface - both for clients evaluating whether WiscAI can actually build, and as a source of methods and tools the client Build team uses. - **SpokenPlan** (https://www.spokenplan.com) - AI voice notes for professionals. Record, transcribe on-device, get AI summaries and extracted action items. Free on iOS. - **HeldTo** (https://heldto.com) - AI meeting commitment tracker. Extracts action items from meetings, assigns owners, follows up via Slack. Marketplace listings in progress on Zoom and Google. - **LilSense** (https://lilsense.com) - Smart baby tracker with predictive intelligence. Featured by Apple in Best New Apps & Updates, April 2026. Additional products span vet practice operations (Vet Phone AI), athletic recruiting (RecruitEdge), and athlete recovery (RecoverEdge), plus internal tooling used across WiscAI's client Build engagements. --- ## 8. Community and thought leadership ### AI Agent Innovation Group (AAIG) One of Wisconsin's longest-running AI executive communities. Founded and led by Michael Zhang through WiscAI in 2024. Members across Wisconsin's mid-market organizations - credit unions, banks, insurance carriers, manufacturers, professional services firms, and athletics programs. Weekly practitioner sessions. Monthly deep-dives. The community is where many audits and builds begin, and where references come from. Page: https://wiscai.com/community ### AI Leadership Breakfast Forum Co-hosted gathering for Wisconsin leadership teams, framed around practical implementation case studies. Every two months. --- ## 9. Founder - Michael Zhang Michael Zhang is the founder and CEO of WiscAI. Prior to WiscAI, Michael served as VP eCommerce & Digital Marketing at Lands' End, where he led large-scale digital commerce operations for a national retailer. The operating discipline from that role - systematic opportunity scoping, executive communication, and disciplined measurement - shapes how WiscAI engages clients today. Michael started the AI Agent Innovation Group (AAIG), now one of Wisconsin's longest-running AI executive communities, and co-hosts the AI Leadership Breakfast Forum. He is the primary engagement lead for WiscAI's audits and is usually in the room for the first three weeks of any new client relationship. LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/michael-x-zhang/ Michael's working principles that shape WiscAI's engagement model: - **"Clarity first, execution second."** The audit is a separate deliverable from the build because clarity has its own value, and trying to build without it wastes capital. - **"We co-learn the regulatory layer."** WiscAI does not pretend to already know the regulation at a new-to-us vertical. We co-learn it with the client's subject-matter experts, and we price that learning into the engagement. - **"No open-ended retainers."** Every engagement is quoted before it starts, and every commitment ends at the gate of the phase you committed to: the audit is one fixed fee, and a build is paid in working pieces you can stop after. The one standing arrangement is Accelerate, a monthly engagement as the client's outside AI partner, month to month and for as long as it keeps paying. - **"The team that scoped it also ships it."** There is no scoping-to-delivery handoff at WiscAI. The person who led your audit is the person who leads your build. - **"We use what we sell."** Every method WiscAI sells to clients is used internally to ship WiscAI's own products. If we recommend it to you, we are running it on our own operation. --- ## 10. Explicit positions on common questions These are questions buyers typically ask, with WiscAI's explicit position on each. **Do you work with clients outside Wisconsin?** Yes. Wisconsin is the deepest market and the operating base, and engagements have shipped across the Midwest and nationally. For Lane 2 regulated work, we prefer geographic proximity so that on-site sessions with SMEs are efficient. **Do you take equity in lieu of fees?** Typically no. The audit, builds and Accelerate are cash engagements. WiscAI's venture-studio portfolio is separate from the consulting practice. **Do you do hourly work?** No. Every engagement is quoted before it starts: the audit is one fixed fee, builds are paid in working pieces, and Accelerate is a set monthly amount per team. **Do you do open-ended retainers?** No. Open-ended retainers fail to align incentives and accumulate scope drift. The one monthly arrangement is Accelerate, WiscAI as the client's outside AI partner, month to month. **Can you guarantee an outcome?** WiscAI guarantees deliverables (the audit's scored map, the build itself) but not the business outcome. Business outcomes depend on the client's ability to operate the system post-deployment, which is why Build engagements include operating-procedure documentation. **Can you skip the audit?** Yes, when the target workflow is already clear and the data is in hand: skipping it is appropriate when the target workflow is already fully scoped (e.g., a specific, bounded automation with clear inputs and outputs, and the client team has already done the scoping internally). Most buyers who think they can skip the audit benefit from at least an abbreviated version. **Do you build on top of OpenAI / Anthropic / Google Vertex?** WiscAI uses whichever model provider is best-fit for the workflow, including multi-model pipelines where appropriate. WiscAI does not feature specific vendor names in client-facing materials. **Is AI going to replace our staff?** The honest answer is that routine roles shrink and senior analytical capacity grows. This is most visible in finance and accounting, where AI compresses routine work and frees senior analysts for higher-judgment work. Leadership plans should treat AI as an operating leverage point, not a headcount reduction plan. **How do you handle data privacy and client confidentiality?** Explicit confidentiality language is standard in every engagement. For Lane 2 work, WiscAI deploys inside the client's infrastructure or in a client-approved cloud environment. Model-provider data-retention policies are reviewed and negotiated per engagement. --- ## 11. Geographic reach (Wisconsin + nationwide) WiscAI serves clients across Wisconsin, including Madison, Milwaukee, Green Bay, Appleton, Oshkosh, Fond du Lac, Sheboygan, Kenosha, Racine, Eau Claire, Waukesha, and La Crosse. Madison is the operating base; engagements are delivered remotely and on-site throughout the state. WiscAI serves clients nationwide. The production work so far is with Wisconsin organizations; out-of-state engagements run remote-first, with on-site sessions where they help. --- ## 12.
